Tips for finding the right coffee

The world of specialty coffee can feel overwhelming. Here are a few tips for navigating our coffee selection. You'll find a more in depth guide on our blog: A Guide to Choosing Your Coffee

Filter coffee or espresso

Our filter coffees are roasted somewhere between light and medium. It's a lighter roast that leaves room for the coffee's own, often fruity and floral notes. It works with any filter method.

Our espresso/ dark roast is roasted a bit darker. It works beautifully in an espresso machine and a moka pot, but also suits filter brewing and a French press if you prefer a bolder, fuller cup.

Processing

The most important factor behind a coffee's flavor notes is its origin, variety, and processing method, meaning the way the fruit's flesh is removed from around the bean before drying.

  • Washed → clean, bright, and more acidic
  • Natural or honey → fuller bodied, more fruity, even wine like

Flavor notes

Flavor notes describe natural characteristics, not added flavoring. Notice which descriptions appeal to you most. Here are a few common terms and flavor notes explained, to help guide your choice:

Light & delicate → floral, tea like, elegant, washed processed

Bold & full bodied → chocolatey, nutty, dark cherry, toffee, dark sugar

Bright & acidic → citrusy, berry like, green apple, pear

Funky & exotic → ripe pineapple, mango, wine like, natural processed, anaerobic

Milk or without?

Both ways work well with the coffees in our range, but here are a few things worth keeping in mind depending on how you drink yours...

  • Prefer (plant based) milk → Espresso/dark filter coffees always work; on the filter side, we recommend going for a natural or honey processed coffee for its fuller mouthfeel.
  • Black, please! → Anything goes! We especially recommend drinking our filter coffees black, so the coffee's fruity, unique flavors can really shine.

Looking for a bolder flavor?

Then your best bet is our espresso roast. That said, don't shy away from our other coffees either, even if they're not roasted dark: you'll find flavor and character in every bag, no matter the roast level. Give it a try, you might be surprised!
