We used this coffee to win the 'Best dark roasted filter/espresso' competition at the Food Expo.
A Rwandan "honey"-processed coffee from our new green coffee partner, Muraho Coffee Trading. The smoothness and silkiness brought by the processing, combined with the coffee's fruity notes, make this coffee a true delight that leaves you wanting more. You may taste hints of red stone fruit, such as cherry, citrus and marzipan.
Muraho Coffee Trading produces coffee at their six washing stations across Rwanda. They established the Shyira washing station in the Nyabihu region of Rwanda in 2017, following the success of their earlier station in Nyamasheke. Muraho aimed to expand their flavor profiles and discover new, unique regions in Rwanda where they could both produce high-quality coffee and make a significant impact through specialty coffee. Shyira was born in January 2017 from this vision.
Shyira is the smallest of Muraho Coffee's six washing stations, yet it is the highest located in all of Rwanda, sitting at 1,850 meters above sea level. The combination of weather, soil, and altitude makes this area ideal for producing top-quality coffee. It’s about an hour’s drive from the city of Musanze, and upon reaching the station, the breathtaking views from Shyira’s hills reveal a chain of volcanoes, the majestic mountain gorillas’ natural habitat, and the beautiful waterfalls of the Gicice River. The white-sand valleys, mist-covered hills, and favorable weather make Shyira truly unique and unparalleled.
This batch is "honey"-processed, meaning the sticky, sugar-rich layer surrounding the coffee bean is left on during drying.
