This natural processed Red Bourbon variety coffee from Finca Majahual in El Salvador is roasted for filter coffee, so it is a bit lighter that the espresso roast we have from the same coffee. The flavor profile includes notes of honeydew melon, dark plum and stone fruits and dark sugar. It has a smooth sweetness and good balance.
In the Los Naranjos Valley of the Sonsonate region, El Salvador, lies the world-renowned coffee-growing area of Apaneca-Ilamatepec. Finca Majahual is located here at an altitude of around 1500-1800 meters. The farm has an excellent microclimate for coffee cultivation: cool, moist ocean air, rich volcanic soil, and abundant rainfall. Finca Majahual is managed by Patrick Murray and his sister, Christina Murray, and its history dates back to 1936, now in its fourth generation of family management.
The farm’s purpose goes beyond producing exceptional coffee; it is also an economic and social project aimed at bringing employment, well-being, and positive impact to the entire region. Their medical center, Clínica San Rafael, provides healthcare for farm workers, and there is also an education center on the farm that offers schooling for local children from preschool to the fifth grade. The farm invests in the nutrition and well-being of its employees, with Patrick and Christina’s mission being not only to grow quality coffee now but also to sustain it for years to come.
They focus on organic farming and use shade trees to increase the farm’s biodiversity, which also enhances coffee quality. Additionally, they are committed to sustainable farming practices, soil conservation, water management, and forest preservation.
