Our new Brazilian comes this time from the Boa Vista farm owned by Daterra in the Cerrado region. The coffee is part of the "Daterra Collection" series and has a delicate fruity, chocolatey, and nutty flavor profile. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and smooth. The coffee is roasted with espresso in mind but also works excellently for a slightly darker filter coffee.
For this coffee, yellow and red Bourbon varieties have been blended, processed using the 'pulped' method. In this process, the fruit pulp and mucilage surrounding the beans are mechanically removed without the use of water. The Boa Vista farm is located in the Cerrado region, which has an almost perfect climate for growing Arabica varieties: a consistent climate, dry winters, and warm, humid summers. This, combined with Daterra's innovation and new technology, produces consistently high-quality coffee year after year. Daterra is a large coffee producer established in 1976 in Brazil, with a foundation based on sustainability and quality, which they greatly emphasize. They are, among other achievements, the first coffee farm in Brazil to receive the Rainforest Alliance certification, have protected 3250 hectares of land, planted 150,000 native tree species, and built an artificial lake to collect rainwater for possible dry seasons.
We became acquainted with Daterra at the 2024 'Nordics Best Roaster' competition (which we won!), where one of the competition's coffees had to be from Daterra. We liked it so much that we decided to enter into a partnership with them.
