Long Miles Coffeen Bumba Honey is here. The flavor features ripe fruitiness, red berries, and honey. A soft and easy-to-enjoy coffee.

This coffee, grown in the remote Bumba Hills in the Kayanza region of Burundi, is the work of around 620 smallholder farmers who bring their harvest to be processed at the Ninga washing station, operated by Long Miles Coffee. This is a honey-processed coffee, meaning the sticky, sugar-rich layer on the coffee bean is left on during drying. This gives the coffee a silky smoothness and sweetness.

Long Miles Coffee was founded in 2013 in Bujumbura, Burundi, after its founders, Ben and Kristy Carlson, moved to the country in 2011. They discovered that Burundi’s recently privatized coffee industry suffered from both injustice and poor farming practices. Meanwhile, roasters around the world struggled to source consistently high-quality coffee from Burundi. To change this, Long Miles Coffee was born—not only to offer excellent coffee but also to support local coffee farmers by improving their livelihoods and promoting sustainable farming practices. Today, LMC owns three washing stations in Burundi and buys coffee from over 5,000 smallholder farmers.

In addition to improving coffee quality in the region, Long Miles also employs a group of local “Coffee Scouts.” In Ninga, the Coffee Scout is Sakubu, who works alongside farmers, teaching them better methods and helping them maximize the potential of their farms. This hard work has paid off—and now we get to taste the results!
